Matdes2025 will be held in Marinha Grande in Portugal
Marinha Grande is located in the central zone of Portugal. It is approximately midway between the City of Porto in the North and Lisbon, the Capital in the South. Travel from either city to Marinha Grande by Car, Rail, Express Bus is convenient and straightforward. Probably, Lisbon is the most convenient city to fly from outside Portugal. The airport is served by flights from all major European cities including budget airlines. Routes from Asia, Australia and the Americas, the Middle East, Russia are available to Lisbon, some may involve a change of flights in an other European City. It is possible to travel by train from France including Paris via Hendaye.

It is a short distance from the
Airport Terminal to the highway
network and the route is direct
either via A1 (sign posted Porto) or
A8 (signposted Porto). We recommend
the A8 route, it is just over 100km,
there are refuelling stsops, with
refreshements and toiiets. The most
direct routes are toll roads, there
are no intersections to slow your
journey. If you rent a car you can
opt for the Via Vedre service in
which payment is taken via device in
the car and the rental company will
add to your bill. There is a small
service charge for this.
Alternatively you can pay at the
tool both using cash or card.
Express bus services (recommended)
You will need to travel to the Sete
Rios Bus Station in Lisbon.
*You can reach the Set Rios Station
by taxi (10-15€ dependent on
luggage), available at the front of
the terminal, it will take 10-15
minutes
*Sometimes there is a bus service
(aerobus 2) directly from the
airport terminal and Sete Rios every
40 minutes and costs 3.15€ but at
the time of writing it was not
operational.
*You can reach the Sete Rios by
metro. Use a combination of the red
(vermelha) and blue (azul) lines. It
will take ~ 25 minutes. Tickets can
be bought at ticket machines in the
metro station.
When you arrive at the Station Jardim Zoologica leave the train and follow the signs for the Bus station (Terminal Rodoviario)
*You can buy tickets on the bus but there is a ticket office at the Bus station. The are departure screens indicating the departure bay for the final destination.
*You can buy tickets on line using the Omio Travel App - Train, bus, flight & ferry tickets all in one - Omio and a credit card. Select bus using the tabs at the top of the app.

*You can buy a return ticket by entering the return date. Price is dependent on journey time. A return ticket will be 17-18€
*The bus terminal in Marinha Grande is in the centre of the city and it is a short walk (5 mins) to the conference location.There will be signs to direct you to the registration location.
By Railway
It is possible to travel to Marinha Grande by train. First you need to travel by metro (red line) to “oriente” station. Above the metro station is the mainline railway station. It is worth a visit for the architecture along. You need to travel on the Lisboa-Porto line to Alfarelos station whichtakes ~3 hours. You need to transfer to a different train to Marinha Grande which will take ~ 1 hour and 15 mins. The railway station is ~ 25 minute walk to the centre of Marinha Grande. There may be taxis at the station.

By Road
Travelling from the south use A8 and take junction 24 to Marinha Grande Zona Industrial then follow directions to Marinha Grande.
Travelling from the North use A17/A* and take junction 24 to Marinha Grande Zona Industrial then follow directions to Marinha Grande.
There is no parking directly adjacent to the conference location. Delegates arriving by car may find the short stay parking locations at useful when registering
Arrival at Porto Airport
Porto Airport is situated 11km to the north of Porto. It is served by major European Airlines and many budget airlines.
Major rental car companies available in Airport terminal. It is ~ 200km to Marinha Grande use A17 and N242 to arinha Grande
Travelling by train or bus, the first step will be to travel to Porto
By bus to the Terminal Intermodal de Companha or there is a direct bus from the Airport to Marinha Grande departing 1415 arrives 1720. Cost 17€ return 0735 arrive 1040

By train
Porto Airport is connected to the city of Porto by Line E, the Purple Metro line, links the airport to the city, running every 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. The first Metro train (Purple LINE E) leaves the airport at 5.58 am between Monday and Friday. The fare is ~ 2€ Or use bus to Companha Station
Change at Companha station. There is a ticket office. Travel towards Lisboa and change trains at Coimbra for a train to Marinha Grande. See information earlier on Marinha Grande Railway station to City Centre.
